Why Collect Landfill Gas?

The natural decomposition of municipal solid waste results in the production of landfill gas. This gas consists primarily of methane and carbon dioxide. Because of its high methane content landfill gas is both potentially explosive at high levels and also a valuable energy resource. Landfill gas can be used as the fuel for numerous energy projects including electric generation, direct use in boilers, steam generation, and leachate/condensate evaporation. The EPA's New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) require most large landfills to collect and destroy landfill gas. Landfill Energy Systems offers the Landfill Owner a proven solution and the chance to turn the liability of collecting landfill gas into an asset by developing a successful landfill gas to energy project. A gas utilization project will provide an opportunity to reduce costs associated with regulatory compliance. Landfill gas to energy projects have also been proven to provide opportunities for positive community relations for the landfill owner with the addition of a "green power" project.

Landfill Energy Systems is a national leader in the development, construction, operation and maintenance of landfill gas to energy systems. Landfill Energy Systems has been developing power generation systems since 1986, using a variety of technologies. Over the past 19 years LES has successfully developed 22 landfill gas projects, in seven states, processing over 60 million cubic feet of landfill gas per day and generating over 80 megawatts of electrical power. This experience covers landfill gas electric generating facilities, condensate disposal, and direct gas sales projects using landfill gas to fuel several industrial processes including a sludge burner facility and steam boilers.

The key to LES' success
is based on the following factors:
LES provides total single point responsibility for engineering, design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and operations & maintenance.
LES utilizes a proven design with reliable support equipment.
LES supplies skilled operators, Caterpillar certified specifically for landfill gas engine generator sets.
LES has an extensive spare parts inventory since all LES plants utilize the same equipment.
LES has over 3,500,000 hours of operating experience on landfill gas fueled Caterpillar engines and Solar gas turbines.
LES has over 19 years of experience designing, building, operating and maintaining landfill gas-to-energy facilities.
