I-95 Municipal Landfill Phase II Fairfax County, VA - 3200 kw
The second phase of the I-95 Landfill Project is almost an exact replica of Phase I. The plant, which is located alongside Phase I, also utilizes four Caterpillar 3516 engines and consumes 1150 standard cubic feet per minute of landfill gas. Since it’s commissioning in March 1993, Phase II has been exporting in excess of 3MW at a capacity factor of over 99% each month. This power is also sold to Dominion Power, formerly Virginia Electric and Power Company. LES supplied all design, engineering, construction, and commissioning services for this power plant. Like Phase I, I-95 Phase II is owned, operated and maintained by LES. The combination of the Phase I and Phase II facilities is the largest landfill gas-to-energy operation in the state of Virginia.
