
Ocean County Landfill Manchester, NJ - 4800 kw
The Manchester Renewable Power Corporation (MRPC) facility is a landfill gas-to-energy generating plant producing 4.8 megawatts of electrical generation. The MRPC plant is located at the Ocean County Landfill in Manchester Township, New Jersey. The landfill is approximately 40 miles northwest of Atlantic City and is owned by the Ocean County Landfill Corporation. This 600 acre Landfill began accepting waste in 1972 and is permitted to continue receiving waste until the year 2016.
Landfill Energy Systems began construction of the MRPC plant in the second half of 1996 and the facility began commercial operation in January of 1997. The electricity generated by the plant is sold to GPU under a twenty year Power Sales Agreement. An average of 3500 standard cubic feet per minute of landfill gas is processed at the site. The plant uses six Caterpillar 3516 internal combustion engine generator sets and produces enough power to supply power to over 5,600 homes in the area.
Landfill Energy Systems was responsible for the facility design, construction and commissioning. The plant is manned by two full-time LES operators who perform all operation and maintenance services.
