Pine Tree Acres Landfill Lenox, MI - 4000 kw
Landfill Energy Systems supplied the design, engineering, construction, permitting and commissioning services for a 4.0 MW facility located at the Pine Tree Acres Landfill. The landfill is located in Lenox Township, Michigan and is owned and operated by Waste Management. It is a 750 acre actively filling landfill and will become one of the largest in the state of Michigan.
The generating facility began commercial operation in May of 1998 and is owned by Sumpter Energy Associates, a partnership between Landfill Energy Systems and Waste Management. The plant is equipped with five CAT 3516 internal combustion engine generator sets. The electricity generated by the plant is sold to The Detroit Edison Company and is sufficient to supply the power for approximately 4,400 homes and businesses.
Landfill Energy Systems provides all daily operations and maintenance services for the partnership. Since its commercial operation, this facility has performed at a capacity factor over 99% each month.
Sufficient quantities of landfill gas have been identified to warrant an expansion of the existing facility. Two additional CAT 3516 engine generator sets will be added to increase the plant’s gross production to 5.6 MW. The expansion should be completed by 2003.
