Sonoma County began exploring ideas for using the methane gas back in the late 1980's, all of which were problematic and eventually abandoned.  In late 1991 Landfill Energy Systems presented the County with a package to negotiate a power sales agreement with PG&E, as well as design, engineer, construct, and commission the generating station.  While the County owns the facility, LES is responsible for it's operation and maintenance.  LES also operates and maintains the gas collection system which delivers 1200 cfm of landfill gas to the power plant.  LES was selected over several other developers due to our straight forward project development strategy and our proven track record in the industry.
