| I-95 Municipal Landfill Phase III Fairfax County, VA | ||
| The I-95
Landfill Phase III facility is a medium btu gas sales project
developed by Landfill Energy Systems. In 1997 Landfill
Energy Systems installed a gas compression station and a three
mile long HDPE pipeline from the I-95 Landfill in Lorton,
Virginia to the County's waste water treatment plant. The I-95 Phase III system currently processes
approximately 1.1 million cubic feet of landfill gas per
day. The gas is sold to Fairfax County and is used as fuel to
offset natural gas purchases at the County's waste water treatment
plant. This compression station is sized to deliver a
total of approximately 3.5 million cubic feet of gas per day
for a potential Phase IV development project involving four
CAT engine generator sets to supply the Lower Potomac
Pollution Control Plant's in house load.
The 300 acre I-95 Landfill is owned and operated by Fairfax County's Department of Solid Waste. As the name implies, this gas project is the third project Landfill Energy Systems has developed in conjunction with Fairfax County at the I-95 Landfill. The Phase I and Phase II projects consist of two virtually identical power generating plants, located on either side of the Phase III facility. These power plants produce a gross 6.4 megawatts of electricity for sale to Dominion Power. Landfill Energy Systems is the sole company responsible for ownership, operation and maintenance of the I-95 Phase III gas plant. |
