In
December of 1990 LES was selected by the county of Fairfax to
develop the I-95 Landfill in Lorton, Virginia. The
development plan included the installation of two separate
generating facilities producing a combined gross output of 6.4
megawatts. The first phase of the power plant
construction was completed in November of 1991. Phase I
houses four Caterpillar 3516 engines and has been exporting in
excess of 3MW to Dominion Power, formerly Virginia Electric and Power Company since
it's commissioning date. The plant consumes
approximately 1150 standard cubic feet per minute of landfill
gas and is located on the County's 300 acre landfill.
LES was responsible for all design, engineering,
construction and commissioning services. In addition,
the plant is owned, operated and maintained by LES. The
success of this facility was highlighted in a 1992
Environmental Protection Agency case study on landfill
gas-to-energy facilities. |
