Landfill Energy Systems provides a wide variety of services
covering initial project development to daily operations and
maintenance of a completed facility and everything in between. Our
proven track record will guarantee a successful project. The
following is a brief description of the services we offer.
LES is well versed in gas supply analysis, utility power sales
agreements and emissions requirements.
Landfill Energy Systems will conduct a feasibility study
to determine whether or not a gas utilization project is
beneficial and evaluate potential customers for the
energy produced. LES is experienced in evaluating the
condition of the current wellfield, estimation of
landfill gas available and determination of the best
type of gas utilization project for the site. LES can
also assist the landfill in determination of the most
economical facility ownership structure. LES understands the
nuances of working with individual landfills owned by either
municipalities or private companies.
LES is experienced in identification of potential energy
users and negotiation of the various contracts required
to complete a project. This includes Gas Rights
Agreements, Power Sales Agreements, Direct Gas Sales
Agreements, Construction Services Agreements, and
Operations & Maintenance Agreements.
Landfill Energy Systems assumes full responsibility for
all aspects of the design, engineering, equipment
procurement, construction, installation, and
commissioning. LES has a proven facility design that is
specifically modified to meet the unique requirements of
each site. LES procures all major pieces of equipment in
the facility design to ensure product quality and
guaranteed operation costs. LES's standard design provides a
shopping list for all plant equipment minimizing build time and
assuring a totally integrated facility. LES manages
project construction from civil work through start-up and
commissioning. LES has designed and built facilities from 0.8 MW
to 9.15 MW and everything in between.
LES is experienced in obtaining air permits for
facilities across the country, including two of the most stringent
areas for air quality requirements: the San Francisco Bay Area
and the State of New Jersey. LES can also assist in
initial start-up emissions testing and successful
compliance throughout the life of the project. All of
the projects that LES operates and maintains have
remained in compliance with local, state, and federal
requirements.
LES has successfully marketed and sold Renewable Energy Credits
and Attributes for both regulated and voluntary markets. LES is
also experienced in registering green house gas emission
reductions with the Department of Energy and is actively
pursuing the development of a market for these reductions.
LES is experienced in identifying sites that qualify for Federal Tax Credits and Department of Energy incentive credits. LES can
assist the landfill owner in evaluating the best method to obtain
beneficial use of these credits. The company has actively
participated in SWANA's current efforts attempting to extend the
Section 29 Credits and include landfill gas projects in the
Section 45 Credits. LES can also offer equity participation in
facilities and will partner with private owners or
municipalities.
Landfill Energy Systems provides daily operations and
maintenance services for electric generating facilities,
direct gas sales projects and gas collection systems.
LES currently operates and maintains 57 landfill gas fueled
Caterpillar engine generator sets producing a gross of 59 MW across the country. This equates to
over 3,500,000 operating hours of
operation and maintenance experience specifically on the
landfill gas. Experience is a key ingredient in LES'
system wide capacity factor over 96% for all units. LES'
ability to consistently perform at high capacity factors
is due to attention to detail and the fact that the day
to day hands on operation and maintenance provides LES
with valuable insight into how to keep the engines
performing at their peak efficiency.
The LES operations strategy is to provide factory
certified full time operators to ensure reliable and
safe plant operations on a continuous basis. LES
operators perform all routine preventive maintenance,
handle any unexpected problems and perform all major
overhauls. In the event of utility forced outages or
relay trips, the operators are responsible for bringing
the generating facility back on line as quickly as
possible. By supplying trained operators, experienced in
power generation facilities operating on landfill gas,
LES operates all facilities at peak efficiency with low
maintenance costs.
Landfill Energy Systems will provide the installation
and operations & maintenance services for the
wellfield. LES currently provides daily operations and
maintenance services for three landfill gas collection
systems and two direct gas use facilities. In addition,
LES has been contracted to make wellfield improvements
and expansions for several landfill owners.
