Landfill Energy Systems (LES) is one of the landfill gas industry’s largest and oldest privately owned developers, developing power generation systems using a variety of technologies. LES supplies quality Caterpillar product with single-point responsibility for design, installation, service, parts, overhaul, training and operation. Since 1986 LES has placed 148 Caterpillar engines and Solar gas turbines into service, its portfolio totals over 230 megawatts of capacity at 45 sites throughout the United States. LES is an unmatched expert in landfill gas power systems, operations and maintenance, interconnection and electrical system design. LES is also actively involved with landfill gas recovery. It has installed collection systems and compression stations for medium btu gas sales projects and for electrical generating facilities. LES operates and maintains these gas projects, as well as, landfill gas collection systems across the country.
Broad Function:
- Responsible for all aspects of gas plant and well field operations of the landfill gas to energy facility ensuring the safety and protection of personnel and equipment while maximizing revenues and minimizing operating costs.
- Supervise operations and well field personnel in the timely execution of their duties on a daily basis.
- Develop and implement operating and well field guidelines and procedures for all plant systems and equipment.
- Ensure corrective and preventative maintenance program is implemented for all aspects of the plant and well field.
- Oversee the purchasing and inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment.
- Plan and schedule outages, scope of work and shutdown repairs.
- Supervise all outside contractors as required.
- Investigate and prepare written reports of any major operating incidents.
- Maintain and repair all plant instrumentation, controls and electrical equipment.
- Network Administrator.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable procedures in the O&M Manual, Resource Manual, Industrial Safety Manual, and Human Resource Manual.
- Ensure plant remains in compliance with all permits, and Federal, State and local laws and regulations.
- Be familiar with and enforce all plant safety policies and procedures.
- Be familiar with and perform work tasks in order to fulfill Corporate, Business Unit, and Personal Goals.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Assist the Facility Manager, helps to clarify and reinforce company policies and procedures.
- Routinely inspects logs, operational data and correspondence to ensure the facility is operated and maintained efficiently and in accordance with plant programs, procedures and good sound engineering practices.
- Conduct performance reviews for all direct reports.
- Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions of equipment and machinery.
- Directs workers engaged in dismantling, assembling and installing industrial machinery.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
- Maintains time and production records.
- Ensure there are no modifications to control systems, equipment, programs or procedures without proper review and management approval.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Recommends and implements procedures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
- Suggests and implements changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of plant or work crew.
- Reviews purchase orders for parts, ensuring budgetary constraints are maintained. Aligns, adjusts, and calibrates equipment according to specifications.
- Directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic repair of machinery and equipment.
- Aligns, adjusts, and calibrates equipment according to specifications.
- Add and maintain users on the network. Maintain work stations, oversee system backup, interface with corporate IT.
- Interprets company polices to workers, manages and enforces safety programs and regulations.
- Oversee well field environmental and regulatory compliance.

- Understanding of landfill gas plant & wellfield technology.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Word, Excel) preferred.
- Ability to follow established procedures with minimal amount of direct supervision.

- Seek advice, counsel, guidance and directions from Facility Manager concerning all assigned duties.
- Develop and maintain harmonious working relationships with personnel working under his/her direction, other company personnel, and employees of other companies with whom direct contact is required.

Education and Experience:
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
- 10 years Landfill Gas to Energy, High BTU, Oil Refinery, Chemical Process, Power Plant Operations and/or technical experience.
- Significant experience in landfill gas or related industry.
